Business Manager - HigherEdJobs

The Office of Communications and Public Affairs in the School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a business manager. The business manager oversees and manages all financial, administrative and operational affairs of the Office of Communication and Public Affairs consistent with standards of performance that ensure University, School, and department business standards and objectives are met, as well as oversight and management of the Human Resource requirements of the department.

The business manager is responsible for ensuring compliance in all functional areas (i.e., Finance, Human Resources, Facilities, and Health & Safety) with applicable School, University, and government agencies, policies, procedures, laws, and so forth. This position will work with the management team to identify and achieve goals of both the School of Medicine (SoM) and the Office of Communication and Public Affairs (OCPA) through effective long-range planning; policy formulation and administration; financial management; supervision of administrative staff; human resources management including health and safety compliance; property management and space and facilities management.

The business manager is the primary contact for the Office of Communication and Public Affairs for all operational issues related to the three separate publications created by the office. The manager is charged with the negotiations, development, management and oversight of all printing, mailing and distribution contracts for the OCPA.

The business manager is expected to have previous experience demonstrating the ability to develop and maintain collegial working relationships with all levels of individuals internal and external to Stanford University. The ideal candidate will also be required to have worked with ambiguous information and make decisions keeping in mind the short and long term ramifications of these decisions. Experience in the area of financial management specifically planning, forecasting, and budgeting is also required. Previous experience in the human resources (HR) profession with an understanding of leave administration and employment law (federal and state) as well as the demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate University HR policies and procedures. Ability to communicate concepts verbally and in writing and the organizational skills to independently meet long and short term deadlines while, adjusting the work load to meet changing deadlines. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office with experience using accounting software or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software. The analytical ability to creatively solve problems within University policies and procedures is also required as is experience managing others from the initial hiring process through separation.

Bachelor degree (business administration preferred) as well as five years of experience is also required.

Previous experience in a print publication, public relations and/or communications operations environment is desired.
